My husband and I have gone to Pumpernickels many times. We like the food the friendliness of the owner and the comfortable atmosphere in the bar area. We always request a table on the bar side. It's a good value in that the dinner comes with a salad, you don't have to pay extra for it. I usually get fish of some kind, it's always good. They also have the most delicious pumpernickel bread, not surprisingly. I will definitely go back, in fact, maybe this weekend :)

Since a farmers market usually involves freshly grown, local produce, the Huntington Farmers Market will open when the agriculture cycle on Long Island starts to yield product. Figure late spring.

Hi, I just moved to Huntington Village and love it here... the variety of restaurants, etc. on NY avenue are amazing. So here is my stupid question... is the farmer's market open this time of year?

Uncooked escargot, either fresh or frozen, is hard to come by. If Northport Fish and Lobster stopped carrying them, I'd ask Fort Hill Seafood on East Main Street or HY Mart in Plainview, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. Personally, if I had a hankering for snail, I'd probably just go with the canned variety and reheat them in the shell. Canned escargot are easy to come by in the canned seafood section of any supermarket (like Super Stop and Shop). I believe that Roland is one of the more readily available labels. See this thread on Chow for more about canned vs. fresh escargot: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/186147
