About
We met in 2000 while working at Jillian’s in Farmingdale (now Dave and Busters). Classic story of a waiter and a bartender who fall in love. We were married in 2004 and currently reside in the Town of Huntington.
What we both bring to this blog is our love of all things food, especially locally sourced food.

Wow it is so great to find your blog! I was searching for a menu for La Picacho on line and found your blog. The farmer’s market, forest pork store, organic farm – you are talking about my back yard. Looking forward to showing the braised short ribs to my husband (the “braised short rib king”).

Sustainable LI will hold a program on Monday, November 16th regarding food equity.
There is an increasing awareness about communities characterized by limited availability of healthful foods. A growing percentage of our neighbors lack access to affordable, fresh foods such as fruits and vegetables and other minimally processed foods that are necessary to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
Many prominent health related issues – obesity and diabetes, for example – are related to eating habits and nutrition, which are often tied to availability of nutritious foods and places to buy them, like supermarkets and farmers’ markets. When a neighborhood has few retail outlets it is challenging for community members to obtain and consume healthy food.
A panel of experts from diverse fields will discuss how to begin creating a vision for what sustainable communities with a variety of fresh and healthy food options for all Long Islanders might look like.

hi, i just stumbled upon your blog and i really like what i’m seeing. i grew up in huntington and now live in east northport so i have question about our neighborhood. do you know anywhere to pick up escargot? i was getting them at northport fish and lobster but they have seemingly stopped carrying them. any ideas? thanks.

Uncooked escargot, either fresh or frozen, is hard to come by. If Northport Fish and Lobster stopped carrying them, I’d ask Fort Hill Seafood on East Main Street or HY Mart in Plainview, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Personally, if I had a hankering for snail, I’d probably just go with the canned variety and reheat them in the shell. Canned escargot are easy to come by in the canned seafood section of any supermarket (like Super Stop and Shop). I believe that Roland is one of the more readily available labels. See this thread on Chow for more about canned vs. fresh escargot: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/186147

Just found your blog today while looking for pictures of Long Island farmers markets. Glad to see some other Huntington folks interested in local, sustainable food. Keep up the good work!
