My love affair with Long Island started when I was very young. Growing up on the white sand beaches of Long Beach, eating custard on the boardwalk near my grandparents apartment; Long Island is and will always be my home.
We used to be the land of the fertile soil; potato farms, cattle and livestock. Hell, Long Island used to stop at Garden City and the rest were pastures and farmland. Now, we’re overrun with strip malls and Starbucks; buying our produce in hermetically sealed, antibiotic treated, plastic bags.
Question reader: Is soil dirt or is it clean? On this site, we’re going to profess that soil is clean and chemicals are dirty. Doesn’t it feel unnatural when you buy produce that looks “perfect?” Nature isn’t perfect and it isn’t always pretty. Some times you have to get your hands dirty in order to live a cleaner lifestyle.
Check back over the new few weeks as we start to share some of Long Island’s best Foodie secrets.
